Starting Salary: $10/hour

Work Week: 40 hours a week; 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Job Responsibilities: Responsible for ensuring the overall upkeep an cleanliness of the Madison County Fiscal Court Facilities including, but no limited to, the Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, County Road Department, Solid Waste, Visitor Center and Pleasant View and the EOC in Richmond. Performs general physical maintenance and upkeep of the facilities as needed. Performs any related duties set forth by the Custodial Supervisor.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Custodial. This is active work that requires physical effort; attention to detail, ability to work with chemicals and waste disposal. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Unlock and lock facility doors during business hours;
    • General cleaning including emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms, showers, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, etc. • Problem solve during emergency situations;
    • Setup holiday décor
    • Setup for meetings and events
    • Weather preparedness including shoveling, salting and notice of closure of facilities;
    • Respect privacy and be discreet;
    • Interacts with departments on a daily basis; and
    • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to lift 25 lbs. handle chemical and garbage waste, be flexible on work assignments

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and previous cleaning and maintenance experience.

Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Work Hours:This position typically works a 40 hour work week. Additional hours as assigned. Normal work hours are 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Additional work hours may be required for travel, holidays, or events. 

Position Summary:The Administrative Assistant is responsible for the administrative support to the office and additional staff identified by the Office Manager. Performs intermediate to advanced skilled clerical and technical work requiring the use of word and data processing equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Detention Center. This is sedentary to light work that requires limited physical effort; position requires visual acuity for preparing, reviewing, checking and maintaining written and computer files and records; requires hearing sufficient to accurately perceive information at normal spoken word levels, the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry and word processing equipment. 

Essential Duties - including but not limited to:

  • Serves as clerical support performing various word and data processing services;
  • Assists in day-to-day business activities;
  • Handles highly confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and tact;
  • Manages email, calendar and voicemail;
  • Drafts letters and appeals for highly sensitive and detailed oriented projects;
  • Organizes, coordinates and monitors inmate visitations;
  • Operates standard office, word processing, and data entry equipment;
  • Maintains and organizes files and documents;;
  • Makes copies and files correspondence;
  • Provide quality assurance with family and inmate concerns;

Skills:This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Individual must be detailed oriented, organized, a team player, and willing to work in a team-oriented environment. Individual must be comfortable with constant interaction with the public.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in Finance, is preferred. Individual must have experience in a networked computer environment. A background in and/or knowledge of finance with an Associate's Degree is preferred or 1 year of experience in a related field.

Starting Salary:  $8

Work Hours:Less than 100 hours per month and must work a minimum of 5 hours per month, either at training or shift work. Position is subject to emergency call back status in the event of an emergency response need.   

Position Summary:Part-Time Firefighter will work on a call back status from one of the officers stated above. They will back fill the station and fulltime firefighter positions when the fulltime is off work due to sick, vacation, holiday leave or some other circumstance causing a shortage. Will work shift work in a schedule of 8,12,16, or 24hour shift or more if needed. Will perform firefighting and rescue duties as stated.

Essential Duties, including but not limited to:

  • Shall perform firefighting, fire prevention and operation duties and does related work as required by the fire chief and/or his/her direct supervisor.
  • Will respond to fire alarms, lays out and connects hoses, nozzles and directs water streams.
  • Raises and climbs ladders, uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks and lines and other equipment.
  • Removes persons from danger, administer first-aid and performs salvage operations such as salvage throws, sweeping waters and removing debris.
  • Check and inspect apparatus and all tools and equipment on apparatus daily.
  • Participates in fire drills and all classes and training on related subjects.
  • Performs general maintenance and upkeep of fire department property and equipment.
  • Conducts station maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash etc.
  • Must work in a safe manner, follow county wide safety policy and practices.
  • The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Acquires and retains a thorough knowledge of the county, including streets, buildings, water supply, unusual hazards and related items.
  • Shall do anything else that is deemed necessary by their officer.
  • Shall get Kentucky Fire Commission 150hour certification within 1 year of hire date and maintain 60 hours of fire training a year thereafter.
  • Shall not have Red Lights and Siren on personal vehicle for use under Madison County Fire.
  • Shall not be on any paid fire department that pays into the Kentucky retirement system.

Knowledge:The Knowledge in principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in modern firefighting and rescue. County policies and admin code and local and state ordinances (open and illegal burns, forestry seasons, red flag warnings, etc.).

Skills:Ability to read and demonstrate written and oral communication. Ability to be certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) in CPR and First-Aid. General knowledge of main and secondary roads in Madison County.

Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED).

Additional Requirements:Valid Driver’s License.

Position Summary: The shelter kennel technician shall perform cleaning and maintenance duties related to the functions of the Madison County Animal Shelter.  The shelter kennel technician shall perform and assist with duties related to vaccinations that are administered to Shelter Animals.  Evaluate health and temperament of Animals prior to adoption. 

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Animal Care Director.   • Grooming of Animals that come into the shelter that need groomed prior to the Adoption Process
  • Administer vaccination to animals prior to adoption according to Madison County Animal Shelter Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Assist with upfront duties of the Madison County Animal Shelter when needed or directed by the Director.
  • Oversee correctional facility workers and follow regulations and attend training established by corrections.
  • Maintain open dialogue with Director and communicate departmental status on a regular basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of  Standard Operating Procedures of the Madison County Animal Shelter;  standard office practices, procedures and clerical techniques; ability to transcribe dictation with speed and accuracy; thorough knowledge of business English and grammar; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to file alphabetically; ability to multitask; ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations; and skill in the use of word and data process equipment.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, knowledge of grooming dogs and cats, general animal care, animal health evaluations, and animal vaccination administering.

Position Summary:This position is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment to maintain and lodge all inmates remaining in the Detention Center. This position oversees the daily activities and ensures that all work is completed on shift. This position requires the capability of making sound, independent and immediate life or death decisions as they are warranted. This position shall be able to be physically capable of defending themselves, fellow employees, inmates and the community at large, at all times. This position serves as a peace office of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for Madison County, with all the rights, privileges and duties assigned by law. In the absence of the Captain, this position would be the decision maker and supervisor on shift. When the Captain in present, this position shall assist the Captain in decision making, if needed.

Essential Duties - including but not limited to:

  • Enforces all rules and regulations for the Detention Center;
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies as requested and/or directed in a professional manner;
  • Manages all shift staff professionally;
  • Initiates all paperwork that has to be completed from incidents that occur during shift in a timely manner;
  • Operate and train others in computer systems and jail management system;
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work under extreme stress;
  • Conducts investigations on incidents that occur during shift;
  • Responsible for the supervision and administration of shift staff including quality control and accuracy of the work of those whom they supervise;
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with inmates, staff and other agencies;
  • Instructs, trains and coaches’ staff on all laws, rules, regulations and facility policies and procedures;
  • Acquire a minimum of 24 hours per KY State Department of Corrections;
  • Maintains a safe and secure facility; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:Individual must be able to effectively communicate, lead and manage people and tasks. Individual must be able to problem solve and make correct command decisions. Individual must have the ability to work with outside government and law enforcement agencies in a manner that represents the Detention Center and County Government in a positive manner. Individual must be proficient in all Microsoft Office products. A background in and/or knowledge of correctional facility functionality, employee management and prior supervisory skills is preferred.

Skills:This position requires strong communication, computer skills and interpersonal skills.  Individual must be detailed oriented, organized and willing to work in a team-oriented environment. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information is required. This position must be able to maintain professionalism and calmness in all situations of extreme pressure and stress.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.  This position requires one year of experience or a combination of higher education in a related field with some experience.
