Madison County Recycling program consists of approximately 2600 homes, in 59 neighborhoods, and three schools. Our recycling truck collects the recyclables here and transports them to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) sorting facility where they are processed and marketed. LFUCG pays Madison County for the previous months goods. Records of the program are collected and kept on file in our office. For the calendar year 2016, we collected 417 tons, which is an outstanding amount, considering the program recently started in February of 2012. Madison County Fiscal Court offers this service free to the citizens that live outside the incorporated limits of Richmond and Berea.
Bins for the recycling of electronic items are located at 321 North Madison Avenue and sent to Winchester for recylcing. The recylcling company pays the County for these goods on a weight/item basis. On average, several tons are processed monthly. This service is offered free to the citizens of Madison County.
